What do the letters after your name stand for?
LPC-S means that I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Approved Supervisor for counselors in training in the State of Texas. NCC means I am a Nationally Certified Counselor.
My highest degree is a Ph.D. in Counseling. I chose to further my education and received additional training by getting my doctorate. In the State of Texas, counselors are only required to complete a Master’s degree.
How long have you been a counselor?
I began counseling clients in 2002 as a graduate student under supervision. In 2005, I was licensed by the State of Texas as a professional counselor. In addition to private practice, I have counseled children, at-risk teens, and adults in many settings: public school, prisons, and university clinics.
My volunteer experience includes 5 years of providing psychoeducational services to incarcerated women at Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth and at Gatesville State Prison. I was also a volunteer counselor through the American Counseling Association, ACA, to Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois university students after the shootings at their campuses.
Since 2008, I volunteer through Trauma Support Services of North Texas, TSSNT. TSSNT is a non-profit agency that assists people who have experienced trauma related incidents and are struggling to cope with its after effects. In 2012, I became the Interim Clinical Director for TSSNT.
After graduating with my doctoral degree (PhD) in 2007, I have been sharing my knowledge and experience as a counselor by teaching graduate students at Texas A&M University-Commerce and at Argosy University Dallas. I currently teach for Walden University.
What are your specialty areas?
A large portion of my practice consists of counseling children, teens, and couples. I also see clients individually for a variety of issues: depression, loss/grief, relationship concerns, parent/child conflicts, anger management, intimacy concerns, and abuse.
Most counselors exclusively use "talk therapy" when counseling clients. Depending on my client’s needs and preferences, I also use expressive arts activities, including sandtray therapy. Having more than one way of doing therapy allows me to better assist clients when traditional "talk therapy" is insufficient. These tools are helpful when people have difficulty talking about their issues or are unsure what the issue is.
How do you counsel children?
I have a play therapy area that is suited to meet the needs of children, ages 3-9. I am trained in play therapy, which is the preferred type of counseling that works best with young children.

What are your beliefs about couples counseling?
Life consists of relationships in many forms: friendship, business, and intimate. At some point in a relationship, people decide that something is not working as well as they would like it to, but they are unsure how to fix it.
This is where I can be of assistance. Much of my practice consists of couples counseling, and I have experience working with couples at all stages of a relationship, including premarital.
Each person’s viewpoint is important to the process of counseling. By creating a nonjudgmental atmosphere, people are more likely to talk about their problems. After gaining an understanding of each person's viewpoint, together we can work on acceptable solutions. What works for one couple may not work for another couple. Customizing and tailoring solutions that work for you is the goal. I believe success lies in valuing each person's needs in the relationship.
Sometimes both people in the relationship do not come to counseling. It is still possible to work on relationship issues when only one person comes to counseling.
Do you provide faith based counseling?
I strive to meet the needs of my clients. Some clients prefer to bring their religious or spiritual faith into counseling sessions. Other clients do not find it necessary to ever disclose their specific religious or spiritual views. I work with clients to identify areas of strength in their lives and use that information to help them come up with workable solutions. It is important to me to accept people regardless of their beliefs and values.
How do I make an appointment?
Call me at 972-641-7100 or 817-917-5511. You can also email me at mail@savitaabrahamsphd.com. I respond promptly to all phone calls and emails. You can also go to the "Contact Me" page on my website and complete the form.
What are your fees?
It depends how the long the session is. 30-minute sessions cost $55. One-hour sessions (60 minutes) cost $110. (The fee does NOT double if more than one person attends the same session. In other words, a couple that attends a one-hour counseling session together can expect to pay $110.)
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash and checks.
Why do you not take insurance?
When insurance companies pay for a portion of counseling services, they become a part of the treatment plan. This means that they have access to detailed information about you. It also means that as a counselor, I must assign you a specific disorder or "label" for which you are receiving counseling services. This information becomes a part of your permanent record. Insurance companies generally communicate how many sessions will be paid for.
For these reasons, I prefer working directly with clients in determining their course of treatment and receiving payment.
(You may be able to receive reimbursement from your insurance company. I would be considered an out-of-network provider. Be sure to check with your insurance company.)
I still have questions. What should I do?
Call me (972-641-7100 or 817-917-5511) or send me an email (mail@savitaabrahamsphd.com). I will be happy to assist you if I can.
